Ohio author Alan Hlad will visit to discuss his debut novel, The Long Flight Home.
Based on real historical events, The Long Flight Home is set in September 1940, during World War II, when British Services used more than 200,000 homing pigeons to carry messages across enemy lines. Against this backdrop unfolds an almost-love story between a young woman who trains homing pigeons in the British countryside, and a recently orphaned American who comes to Britain to join the Royal Air Force. This fascinating story inspired by World War II's little-known Operation Columba is a true testament to the power of courage in our darkest hours.
Hlad is a member of the Historical Novel Society, Literary Cleveland and the Akron Writers’ Group.
