A new poetry open mic, moderated by the City of South Euclid's first Poet Laureate, "Doc" Janning.
Calling all poets! Join us for a new poetry open mic every second Sunday of the month. It's open to all poets, 18 and over. We'll follow a round-robin format, with a featured reader to begin. You may bring more than one poem to read.
Featured reader:
S. Renay Sanders learned to love the spoken word amidst a family of storytellers. She began secretly writing her own stories with a touch of rhythm, rhyme, and reflection not to mention alliteration. She came out of the poetry closet in 2010 with a poem in the Hessler Street Poetry Anthology. She subsequently had poems in anthologies published by the Writing Knights and Poet’s Haven. Her most recent accomplishments are the publication of her first chap book Dancing in Place and venturing into storytelling with the acceptance of her story Cemetery Run by The Women of Appalachia Project 2019. Today she proudly lives the poetic lifestyle. Continuing to enjoy the local poetry scene as an open-mic-er and occasional feature. A Cleveland native, Renay is inspired by the characters she encounters in life and the beauty of the Cuyahoga Valley where she now resides.
M.A. "Doc" Janning was sworn in as the City of South Euclid's inaugural Poet Laureate in October 2018. Doc grew up in East Cleveland and, after graduating from Western Reserve University and the Ohio College of Podiactric Medicine, became a Podiatrist. He's been active in the Boy Scouts of America for over 40 years. He also writes fiction, memoir, and nonfiction. His Facebook page, "Tears of My Soul," has nearly 6000 followers worldwide.
