Meet Author Derf Backderf

Join us as Cleveland author and artist Derf Backderf visits to discuss his latest book, Kent State: Four Dead in Ohio.

Derf Backderf is the author of the graphic novels Trashed, Punk Rock & Trailer Parks, and the international bestseller My Friend Dahmer.  His work has been displayed in museums and galleries worldwide. He has been nominated for two Eisner Awards (the Oscars of comix), as well as Harvey, Ignatz and Rueben Awards. He was the recipient of a prestigious Robert F. Kennedy Journalism Award for political cartoons in 2006 and an Angoulême Prize for My Friend Dahmer in 2014.

For his latest book, Kent State: Four Dead in Ohio, Backderf conducted extensive interviews and research to explore the lives of the four young people killed by the Ohio National Guard, and the events of those four days in May 1970 when the country seemed on the brink of tearing apart. Published in time for the 50th anniversary of the tragedy, the book is a moving and troubling story about the bitter price of dissent—as relevant today as it was in 1970.

Books will be available for purchase courtesy of Mac's Backs - Books on Coventry.
