Join MetroHealth surgeons Dr. Bram Kaufman & Dr. David Rowe as they discuss the origins of plastic surgery and how the field has evolved over time.
Plastic surgery is a centuries old specialty, the roots of which still comprise the bulk of what we do today. Please join Bram Kaufman, MD, chief division of plastic surgery and David Rowe, MD, plastic surgeon with The MetroHealth System and assistant professors at Case Western Reserve School of Medicine as they discuss the origins of plastic surgery and how the field has evolved over time with major milestones of innovations and techniques that contributed to our specialty. Clinical examples will be used to demonstrate these advances which include an understanding of wound healing, the advent of flap surgery, the introduction of the operating microscope in plastic surgery, advances in laser technology and the use of soft tissue fillers and Botox. The discussion will touch on the topics of cosmetic surgery, reconstruction after cancer or injury, management of birth defects, and hand surgery, among others. Drs. Kaufman and Rowe will discuss the exciting future of plastic surgery and the disciplines of tissue engineering and transplantation.
