Author Margaret Lynch shares the story of Cleveland's St. Patrick's Day parade, a proud and beloved tradition that has brought people together for more than 175 years.
Margaret Lynch, Executive Director of the Irish American Archives Society, draws on research conducted for the recent publication The Day We Celebrate to illuminate aspects of the history of the Irish in Cleveland as seen through the lens of the city's annual St. Patrick's Day Parade, stretching back to 1842. Images of maps, vintage photographs, newspapers, club records, and diaries help to uncover the individuals and groups that helped to maintain a proud celebration of Irish heritage and one of the city’s oldest and most vibrant public events.
