Adults may enter their own cover design of The New Yorker magazine for this branch contest. See branch for details.
The Gates Mills branch library is holding a design contest for adults in celebration of James Thurber, Ohio's famous humorist. Known for his humorous writings and cartoons, James Thurber drew six covers and numerous illustrations for the American magazine, The New Yorker. We invite you to submit your own design as if it will be on the cover of The New Yorker. Your design may be in any style and medium but should be size 8.5 by 11 inches, portrait orientation, and be your own work. Submit your cover art to the Gates Mills branch library where it will be copied to include the magazine nameplate. Original artwork will be returned to you. The deadline for submissions is Saturday, March 31, 2018. Covers will be displayed at the library and judged by branch staff on creativity, composition, and ability to capture the spirit of The New Yorker. The winner will be notified and will receive a prize. Contact the Gates Mills branch for questions. (The New Yorker magazine is not affiliated with this contest.)
