Learn about the cultural impact of this 1989 Japanese film. This event will be held virtually on Zoom.
The 1989 Japanese movie Akira is an amazing work of art and animation. It is a perfect encapsulation of world fears at the time of its release, the impact of the atomic bombs that hit Hiroshima and Nagasaki, and youth culture of the 80s. This presentation will dive in depth into the culture of Japan in the 80s and its inspiration from American pop culture at the time, and how Akira helped set off the Japanese media craze that is raging in the US now.
