A presentation about this new and impactful art exhibition at the Kent State University Museum.
Long a fraught topic for African Americans and others in the diaspora, Black hair is addressed in the 'TEXTURES' exhibition by artists, barbers, and activists in both its historical perceptions and its ramifications for self and society today. In this presentation, one of the exhibition curators will show some of the dynamic art works and artifacts that explore topics ranging from the preferential treatment of straight hair, the social hierarchies of skin, and the power and politics of display. The exhibition is on view at the Kent State University Museum and co-curated by Dr. Tameka N. Ellington and Dr. Joseph L. Underwood.
