Seventy years ago, the call for civil rights, for an end to economic inequality and for Black power tore cities apart – and at the same time gave rise to music of lasting expressiveness and groove. Author Carlo Wolff's book Invisible Soul: Uncovering Cleveland's Underground Soul Scene recalls the stories and experiences of Cleveland’s soul scene near East 105th street. In a neighborhood of clubs, theaters, and dives, Black club owners, entertainers and audiences found security and joy in the throb of some of America’s most authentic music.

Books will be available for purchase courtesy of Act3Creative.

Wolff writes about popular culture, music, books, hospitality and travel. A contributor to the jazz magazine DownBeat, he is the author of Cleveland Rock & Roll Memories: True and Tall Tales of the Glory Days, Told by Musicians, DJs, Promoters, and Fans Who Made the Scene, lead author of Mike Belkin: Socks, Sports, Rock and Art and co-writer of Designing Victory: A Memoir – the Architect Who Dared, Dreamed, and Achieved International Acclaim.

He also reports and edits for newspapers and magazines. A native of Dallas, Wolff grew up in Columbus and attended schools in the Boston area. He moved to Cleveland in 1986. Wolff lives in Cleveland with his wife, Karen Sandstrom, and Daisy the Dog.
