Learn about one-act playwriting and create a first draft in a six-week workshop that meets on the first and third Tuesday evenings in February, March and April.
In this workshop, we will
*explore and discuss the characteristics that distinguish a one-act play from a full-length production,
*read several one-acts to acquire a clearer understanding of those defining elements, and
*perform a variety of writing exercises in the sessions.
Most important, each writer will begin to create her or his own piece and develop it over the six-week session. The goal is to have a good first draft by the end of the course, so that playwrights may continue to shape and shop their plays. We will also discuss opportunities to schedule public readings with actors of completed plays.
Christopher Johnston is a playwright, director and freelance journalist. He completed a playwriting internship at the Cleveland Play House and has taught playwriting at Cleveland State University. His one-act play, The Black Mongoose and His Lil Purple Butterfly, premiered at convergence-continuum in September 2018, and his full-length documentary play about human sex trafficking, Live Bodies for Sale, will premiere at Playwrights Local Theatre in November 2019.

The City of South Euclid will conduct a resurfacing project on South Green Road between Mayfield Road and Cedar Road that we anticipate will result in travel delays. The resurfacing project is expected to begin Monday, April 3, 2023, and continue through late fall. During that time, we encourage all visitors to the South Euclid-Lyndhurst Branch of Cuyahoga County Public Library to plan accordingly and allow themselves ample travel time. The South Euclid-Lyndhurst Branch will remain open for normal hours of operation during construction.
