Join us to hear the story of Francis Drury, partner of John D. Rockefeller and first president of the Cleveland Playhouse Foundation.
Once again Dan Ruminski, Cleveland Storyteller returns to tell us about another fascinating person in Cleveland history. Come hear how Francis Drury turned his love of theater into a reality called the Cleveland Playhouse. How did Drury achieve his wealth? Why did Francis and his wife Julia suddenly abandon their home in Cleveland? What role did Cleveland society play in this decision? Also learn about his building of one of the last and most fabulous mansions on Millionaire’s Row and his desire for more space resulting in the building of his Cedar Hill Farm, known today as Gilmour Academy. This program is presented in collaboration with the Bay Village Historical Society and sponsored by the Friends of the Bay Village Branch.
