In this workshop, participants will learn about the world of flamenco fashion and design and craft a flamenco peineta, a special hair comb commonly worn in Andalusia by flamenco dancers or anyone wanting to dress up with flamenco flair.
Alice Blumenfeld is known for a unique and “fierce presence (her movements seem to arise from several feet beneath the ground)” (Thinking Dance) and her “sharp and exhilarating” energy onstage (Philadelphia Inquirer). She is at the forefront of flamenco in the United States, a leader in contemporary flamenco choreography and a nationally recognized teacher and performer. She is currently an Assistant Lecturer at the University of Akron and a teaching artist for the Center for Arts-Inspired Learning.

In 1829, Charles Hyde Olmsted promised to donate 500 books from his father’s collection if the residents agreed to change the name of their town from Lenox to Olmsted. They did and the books traveled by oxcart and were housed in individual residents’ homes while being circulated. The “Oxcart Library” is thought to be the first circulating public library in the Western Reserve.
