Join us for an in-depth scholar-led discussion of Citizen: An American Lyric by Claudia Rankine. This 4-week program is part of the National Endowment of the Arts Big Read.
This four-part discussion focuses on the award-winning book: Citizen: An American Lyric, by Claudia Rankine.
Through her poetic narrative, Ms. Rankine invites and entreats the reader to consider life through her personal and objective experience of being black in America. The grave truths beautifully laid bare by Ms. Rankine are inescapable and raise profound questions. What is equality? Who counts as a citizen? What are the privileges and obligations of a citizen? If one is not equal and not a citizen then how can that person be free or receive Justice?
