Sugata Chatterjee will perform and present on the grammar and history of Indian classical music. She will perform “raagas,” which are the melodic framework in Indian classical music. The improvisation of Indian classical music is vast. It’s limit is the horizon.
Sugata Chatterjee was born In Kolkata, India. She started learning Indian classical music since her childhood. Her first guru or teacher is Pandit Satya Ranjan Chatterjee. She continued her training under legendary Pandit Ajay Chakraborty, legendary Girija Devi, Pandit Mohonlal Misra and Pandit Falguni Mitra. She presented Indian music in radio and TV multiple times. She traveled as a singer throughout the USA, India, Canada and the United Kingdom.

The Independence Branch began as a collection operated out of City Hall. After outgrowing that space, the library moved into its own facility and since 1992 the branch has been a part of the city’s municipal complex that includes a recreational facility and senior center.
