The capital of Armenia, Yerevan, is older than Rome. Armenia is mentioned in the Bible numerous times; in fact, two of the 12 disciples – Thaddeus and Bartholomew – died bringing Christianity to Armenia.
Following its conversion to Christianity in 300 C.E., Armenia would face the armies of Rome, Persia, Mongolia, Islam and Turkey, all of which failed to break the nation from its faith. The Armenians have maintained an ancient and rich liturgical and Christian literary tradition through the 21st century.

In 1829, Charles Hyde Olmsted promised to donate 500 books from his father’s collection if the residents agreed to change the name of their town from Lenox to Olmsted. They did and the books traveled by oxcart and were housed in individual residents’ homes while being circulated. The “Oxcart Library” is thought to be the first circulating public library in the Western Reserve.
