Sociologist and author Eric Klinenberg will visit to discuss his book Palaces for the People, a New York Times Book Review Editors’ Choice and one of NPR’s Best Books of 2018.
Eric Klinenberg is Professor of Sociology and Director of the Institute for Public Knowledge at New York University. He is the author of Palaces for the People: How Social Infrastructure Can Help Fight Inequality, Polarization, and the Decline of Civic Life. In the book, Klinenberg offers an inspiring blueprint for rebuilding our fractured society and focuses on the value of shared spaces like libraries, childcare centers, bookstores, churches and parks. Palaces for the People urges readers to acknowledge the crucial role these spaces play in civic life and how social infrastructure is helping to solve some of our most pressing challenges.
Klinenberg is also the author of Going Solo: The Extraordinary Rise and Surprising Appeal of Living Alone, Fighting for Air: The Battle to Control America’s Media, and Heat Wave: A Social Autopsy of Disaster in Chicago.

The City of South Euclid will conduct a resurfacing project on South Green Road between Mayfield Road and Cedar Road that we anticipate will result in travel delays. The resurfacing project is expected to begin Monday, April 3, 2023, and continue through late fall. During that time, we encourage all visitors to the South Euclid-Lyndhurst Branch of Cuyahoga County Public Library to plan accordingly and allow themselves ample travel time. The South Euclid-Lyndhurst Branch will remain open for normal hours of operation during construction.
