Recent Strongsville High School grad Erin Sievers will discuss her debut novel, Broken Lights Can’t Shine.
Lily cannot walk, read, or speak more than a few words. She is eight years old. Tied to a light pole in her parents' backyard, she is consistently tormented, beaten, and starved, with little to do but repeat the horrible words that are shouted at her. But when Ben sneaks into her yard, intending to rob the house, he finds Lily and vows to give her a better life. And he does. He gives her a bed and food, and teaches her the basic skills any eight year old should know. There's just one catch: she's locked in his basement.
