Join us as Cleveland author Eliese Colette Goldbach discusses her debut memoir, RUST: A Memoir of Steel and Grit .
Raised by deeply Catholic—and deeply Republican—parents, Eliese Colette Goldbach grew up inspired to pursue the calling of religious life. But just days after her 18th birthday, she was raped--a trauma that crumbled her faith and led to a diagnosis of bipolar disorder. Set on a path she didn’t recognize as her own, Eliese eventually found herself wearing a hardhat at age 29, working for ArcelorMittal Steel in Cleveland.
Framed by her first year working inside the mill, and with the contentious 2016 election as a backdrop, RUST is at once a piercingly honest coming-of-age memoir and a timely examination of overlooked steelworkers who have devoted their lives laboring beside molten metal and heavy machinery.
