CCPL Teen Staff Training
Transforming Teen Services is a nationwide initiative of the Young Adult Library Services Association (YALSA), a division of the American Library Association. Transforming Teen Services aims to support and elevate teen services in libraries and other learning environments by integrating connected learning, computational thinking, and youth development to help build responsive services for and with teens.
1. Introduction / Ages and Stages - January 13th
Meet the facilitators and attendees, learn about Transforming Teen Services, and explore youth development and how to create program environments and activities to meet young peoples’ developmental needs.
2. Connected Learning – January 20th
Connected Learning (CL) encourages curiosity, exploration of interests, relationship-building, and teen participation in creating learning opportunities. Explore how to use teens’ interests to create programs and services that engage and empower teens.
3. Computational Thinking – January 27th
Computational Thinking (CT) is a way of thinking critically and solving problems by applying logical concepts. From coding to cooking, many everyday skills, hobbies, and occupational pursuits all involve CT. Explore how to help teens face challenges and solve problems by building CT literacy.
4. Bringing It All Together – February 3rd
Wrap up your Transforming Teen Services experience with a review of all the major topics, an opportunity to look at actual library programs and services through a CL and CT lens, and a conversation about Youth Voice. Explore opportunities to dive deeper and learn more about CL and CT, or just take the knowledge you have gained and run with it!
