Free "Poem for Cleveland" writing workshops for adults 55 and above on the first Friday of the month from October through June.
Poets are the means by which a place comes to know itself. -- Maj Ragain
Join us at these free monthly writing workshops where elders (55 and above) can share Cleveland stories and, with the help of youth poets, turn them into poems to be included in the “Poem for Cleveland” anthology. Each hour-long session will include poetry prompts about Cleveland, including favorite places, people, family memories, and growing up a Clevelander.
Funded by an American Academy of Poetry grant, these workshops will bring together youth poets and elders to create a poetic mosaic celebrating our city. The year-long project will culminate in an anthology of poems and a celebratory reading of youth and elder poets next July at the Cleveland Public Library.
These workshops will be led by Ray McNiece, Cleveland Heights Poet Laureate and Cleveland Arts Prize Lifetime Achievement Award winner, and Raja Belle Freeman youth poetry instructor from Lake Erie Ink. They will also include two poets from the Poem for Cleveland Project youth poetry cohort.
These workshops are made possible by the Academy of American Poets with funds from the Mellon Foundation.

The City of South Euclid will conduct a resurfacing project on South Green Road between Mayfield Road and Cedar Road that we anticipate will result in travel delays. The resurfacing project is expected to begin Monday, April 3, 2023, and continue through late fall. During that time, we encourage all visitors to the South Euclid-Lyndhurst Branch of Cuyahoga County Public Library to plan accordingly and allow themselves ample travel time. The South Euclid-Lyndhurst Branch will remain open for normal hours of operation during construction.
