The Maple Heights teacher and veteran will discuss his memoir, Counted Out: A Look Inside One Sergeant's Physical, Mental, and Spiritual War.
About the Author:
In 2009 Corwyn Collier was deployed to Iraq. After five months in his tour he was hit by a roadside bomb. For the next nine months he was a patient at Walter Reed Hospital.
Corwyn returned home from the hospital in March of 2010 and started his master's degree in education at the University of Akron, graduating in December 2012.
As Corwyn began to move forward in life and recover both mentally and physically, he began competing in men's physique. After two years of competing as an amateur he became the first wounded/partial amputee vet to earn an International Federation of Body Building and Fitness pro card. Corwyn has been featured in Men's Health Magazine, Bodybuilding.com and Fitness magazine. He has appeared in a television show called the Triumph Games (2016) where he competed with other wounded vets as well as being featured in a documentary called Alive (2019) on Hulu and Epix. Corwyn recently won Men's Health magazine's Ultimate Guy competition.
Corwyn has been married to his wife Iisha since 2008. They have three sons (Malachi, Corwyn Jr. and Aaron) and reside in Stow, OH. He has taught at Maple Heights High School since 2013 and took over as the head track coach in 2019. He has also coached Shaker Feet on Fire, an AAU/USATF track team from 2013 to 2021.
