Join us as acclaimed documentary filmmaker David Sutherland hosts a special screening of his latest film, Marcos Doesn’t Live Here Anymore. A panel discussion will follow.
About the film:
Marcos Doesn't Live Here Anymore examines the national issues of immigration while documenting the story of Elizabeth and Marcos Perez. Elizabeth, a Northeast Ohioan and decorated U.S. Marine veteran, works tirelessly to reunite her family after her husband Marcos, an undocumented immigrant from Mexico, is deported.
With the unfiltered intimacy that is a signature of his work, Sutherland weaves a parallel-action love story that takes viewers inside a world often lived in the shadows, on both sides of the border. In the end, Elizabeth’s efforts to return her husband hit a legal brick wall, and she is forced to plan for an unthinkable alternative – leaving the United States to live in exile in Mexico in order to keep her family together.
An informative Q&A session will follow the screening with filmmaker David Sutherland, documentary subject Elizabeth Perez, and local immigration attorney David Leopold.
This event is presented in partnership with Ulmer & Berne.
