Create a moving AUTOMATON! Come join us to create a kinetic sculpture using cranks, cams and camshafts!
We will examine how automatons work, the different ways we can make an object move, and the possibilities of telling a story through kinetic art. You will be asked to sketch a design of an original character within an environment. Where will that character be placed in its surroundings and how will the character move?
Each student will then make a three-dimensional mockup of their character to troubleshoot its movements, to figure out the size and placement of the cams and the camshaft. These pieces will then be laser cut out of wood (at a different location), assembled and painted in class to make a kinetic automaton art piece!
These kinetic sculptures will be displayed together on the wall of the library for a month for people to interact with and enjoy.
For ages 11-18. Presented by Progressive Arts Alliance
