A new poetry open mic, moderated by the City of South Euclid's first Poet Laureate, "Doc" Janning.
Calling all poets! Join us for a new poetry open mic every second Sunday of the month. It's open to all poets, 18 and over. We'll follow a round-robin format, with a featured reader to begin. You may bring more than one poem to read.
Featured reader:
Kari Gunter-Seymour is the editor of six anthologies: Women Speak, volumes 1 -5 and Essentially Athens Ohio. Her chapbook, Serving (Crisis Chronicles Press) is currently in its third printing as an expanded edition with additional poems included. Her work can be found in many fine journals, anthologies and publications including Rattle, Crab Orchard Review, Main Street Rag, Lascaux Review, The American Journal of Poetry and The LA Times, as well as on her website: www.karigunterseymourpoet.com.
She is a retired instructor in the E.W. Scripps School of Journalism at Ohio University, a poetry workshop instructor, and Immediate Past Poet Laureate for Athens, Ohio. A poem she recently wrote in support of families living in poverty in Athens County, OH, went viral and has been seen by over 100,000 people, resulting in thousands of dollars donated to her local food pantry. She has been nominated five times for the Pushcart Prize.
M.A. "Doc" Janning was sworn in as the City of South Euclid's inaugural Poet Laureate in October 2018. Doc grew up in East Cleveland and, after graduating from Western Reserve University and the Ohio College of Podiactric Medicine, became a Podiatrist.
