Emmy-nominated author and songwriter Raquel M. Ortiz will discuss the step-by-step process of recording a song. Her presentation will focus on writing lyrics and explore important songwriting concepts such as song categories, song intention, and core emotions. She will also share a few of her bilingual songs that depict culturally specific aspects of her heritage. Please bring lyrics to your favorite song and an idea for a song you'd like to write.
Dr. Raquel M. Ortiz, an Emmy-nominated documentary filmmaker, is a social anthropologist, educator, storyteller, and author of children's books and songs. Awarded a 2022 Cleveland Foundation Artist Fellow, Ortiz released an album of Afro-Puerto Rican bomba songs for children, Que vengan los niños, created in collaboration with William Cepeda, a four-time Grammy-nominated Latin Jazz legend. Ortiz was also the 2023 Cleveland Public Library Artist in Residence.
