Create essays or memoir using advice from To Show and To Tell by Phillip Lopate
In this five-session workshop (July 16 -- August 13), our goal will be to generate two new nonfiction projects (essays or chapters) or possibly recast older ones in light of advice from selected chapters in Phillip Lopate's recent book, To Show and to Tell: The Craft of Literary Nonfiction. His reflections on the state of the art, nonfiction's relationship to fiction, the ethics of writing about others, and challenges posed by the age of Facebook provide a savvy guide to effective writing in an ever changing publication landscape.
Neal Chandler is retired from the Creative Writing Program and Northeast Ohio MFA at Cleveland State University, where he administered the program and taught Creative Nonfiction. He lives in Ohio and North Carolina with his wife and multiple writing projects.
